About us

The Christie charity supports the development of cancer prevention, treatment, research and education through investment in staff, equipment, facilities and other support services that are over and above what the NHS funds.

With your support we can continue to deliver a huge range of projects from life-saving research and the latest high-tech equipment to support services that help us make cancer treatment a little easier for our patients.

Patients like Keith Bentham who, following a routine MRI scan on his lower back in December 2018, was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer in the form of a large tumour. Keith was placed under the care of The Christie and underwent surgery on 16th February 2019 to have his right kidney removed. Six hours in theatre was followed by an intense recovery period of over 3 months and now, thanks to the team at The Christie, Keith is thankfully cancer free.

Keith said: “Whilst at The Christie, it didn’t take me long to realise that I was so fortunate to be cared for in such a special place where literally everyone was an upbeat, smiley, ‘can do’ kind of person. The whole scenario turned out to be one of the best and most uplifting experiences of my life.

I could never thank the staff at The Christie enough for what they did for me and I promised myself that once I was able to, I would try and do something in return and this is why on Sunday 13th October 2019 I took part the Manchester Half Marathon as a member of Team Christie. This was my way of saying thank you and to raise some money that will benefit this amazing hospital, its staff and other people with cancer.”

Team Christie Support

We will be there to support you throughout your challenge. All Team Christie runners will receive a fundraising pack, free Christie t-shirt, support along the route from our cheering team and post-race hospitality. We will be in touch in the run up to the big day with the training tips and fundraising advice to help you to prepare for the race and reach your fundraising targets. We can also provide you with our fantastic supporter pack which include flags and bang sticks to help your friends and family cheer you along the route!
