TRAVEL BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Metrolink is the easiest way for all runners to get to race, there are number of cost effective ticket options for both runners and spectators.
The closest Metrolink stops to the Athletes Village, Race Village and Start Area are Old Trafford (Altrincham line), Trafford Bar (Altrincham and Didsbury lines) and Exchange Quay (Eccles and MediaCityUK lines). All three stops are less than a 10-minute walk from the Athletes Village, Race Village and Start Area with the Old Trafford stop being adjacent to Emirates Old Trafford.
There will be signs marking the routes from each of these stops and marshals to guide you too. Weekend Metrolink Travelcards are available to all adults for only £5.80 for travel from 6.00pm Friday evening to end-of-service on Sunday evening. These can be purchased from the ticket machines located on all tram stops – this is an ideal option for all runners especially those staying in Manchester for the weekend.
Weekend family tickets are also available for only £8.00 and offer unlimited travel on all Metrolink tram services for groups of up to two adults and three children. Valid after 6pm on Friday until the end of service on Sunday, these tickets offer your family a great opportunity to use Metrolink to watch the race at various points along the course and make the most of a weekend in the city.
Metrolink operates a frequent service on all lines so catching the tram couldn’t be easier, just be sure to buy a ticket before you board as tickets aren’t available on the trams themselves.
ARE YOU DRIVING?
There are a range of Metrolink Park and Ride car parks located around the Greater Manchester network, it’s easy to park up and hop on the tram for a hassle-free journey to the event. Parking at tram stops is free for all Metrolink customers. Park and Ride provides a cost-effective travel option and avoids the event day traffic.
There are many cheering and supporting points around the course and some of these are located conveniently close to Metrolink stops. More details will be released in the Race Booklet. Further information is available at www.metrolink.co.uk
If you are travelling to the event from outside Manchester rail services operate to both Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria stations. Both stations have Metrolink connections so you can quickly hop on a tram to continue your journey. The Old Trafford Metrolink stop is conveniently located outside the Athletes Village at Emirates Old Trafford- Lancashire County Cricket club.
Emirates Old Trafford - Lancashire County Cricket Club is 5 miles from Manchester City Centre (Piccadilly Gardens). Taxis from Manchester City Centre normally cost around £10-£15. Check before embarking on your journey. Roads near the Athletes Village, Race Village, and Start Area will be affected by road closures attributed to the event. Please refer to the drop off information below.
Manchester International Airport is approximately 20 minutes from the area. By car, join the M56 motorway at the airport exit (junction 5) and then follow the directions ‘From The South’ shown above.
There are direct train services to Manchester City Centre and also,a Metrolink Service that runs to the Trafford Bar stop. This Metrolink service takes approximately 40 minutes and Trafford Bar is a 10 minute walk from the Athletes Village, Race Village and Start Area.

We expect to be welcoming runners from all over the North West and beyond. The Manchester Half Marathon is based at Emirates Old Trafford, home of Lancashire County Cricket Club which is very easy to reach from almost anywhere in Greater Manchester.
There are many hotels to choose from, we recommend that you use one of our partner hotels Cresta Court Hotel in Altrincham or INNSIDE Hotel in Manchester.
If you are using public transport, we strongly recommend that you use Metrolink to get to and from the race village.
These directions are to the car parks at Manchester United Football Stadium. You will be asked to provide your car park pass on entering Wharfside Way to gain access to these car parks. Please do not use your sat nav as this will send you into the road closures and make getting to the car parks very difficult.
Manchester United FC have a huge number of very convenient and secure car parking spaces available next to the race start. These are pre-bookable and the closest spaces are allocated first.
Disabled Car Parking Facilities are available at Manchester United FC car park.
Online booking for car parking at Manchester United FC has now closed. It is possible to pay on the day. The price for parking is £10.00.

FROM THE NORTH
Leave the M6 at junction 12 (M602 Salford/Manchester). Leave the M602 (junction 2). Drive south on the A576 crossing four roundabouts. At the fifth roundabout drive, straight across (2nd exit) onto Moorings Road, then join Trafford Park Road. Continue on Trafford Park Road crossing one roundabout. At a major roundabout you will join Wharfside Way which leads to competitor parking at N2 (off Wharfside Way) / N3 (off John Gilbert Way).
FROM THE SOUTH
Leave the M6 at junction 19 and take the A556 in the direction of Manchester Airport. Continue on the M56 in the direction of Manchester Aiport. Continue on the M56 to Manchester, passing the airport and following the signs to the M60 (Leeds/Liverpool). Leave the M60 at junction 9 (junction 7 A56 Chester Road is closed for the marathon), turning right onto the A5081 Park Way. At the next roundabout turn right (3rd exit) onto Village Way, continuing to Wharfside Way which leads to competitor parking at N2 (off Wharfside Way) / N3 (off John Gilbert Way).
There is space in the race village for you to lock up your bicycle. This is not manned at any time. The event organisers cannot accept responsibility for any losses or damages, however caused, so please ensure your bike is securely locked.
