Organisers of the Manchester Half Marathon are proud to support MEN Media's campaign, #WeStandTogether, to foster peace and love in Greater Manchester in wake of the recent Manchester Arena atrocities.

The second Manchester Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 15th October, starting and finishing at Emirates Old Trafford, the home of Lancashire County Cricket Club. Organised by Xtra Mile Events in partnership with Trafford Council, the event hopes to encourage runners and their supporters to back the #WeStandTogether campaign by wearing yellow wristbands, which will be distributed in the event village.

“The power of mass participation sports events has #WeStandTogether at its heart,” says Nick Rusling, CEO of ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon and Manchester Half Marathon. “The Manchester Half Marathon is a great example of how communities support each other and bring a wave of positive feeling; through volunteering, cheering, collective achievement and charity – all of which bring Manchester together.  We are delighted to support this campaign.”

Leader of the Council, Sean Anstee, said: “The 'We Stand Together' campaign aims to create a peaceful Greater Manchester where all children encourage acts of kindness, while turning against violence and hate crime. This idea of solidarity is perfectly captured in the half marathon, where everyone across our communities comes together through sport. I encourage people to show their backing for both; let’s show how we can set the standard for peace.”
