First Street Hosts Race Pack Collection Point for Inaugural Aldi Manchester Half Marathon

The organisers of the inaugural Aldi Manchester Half Marathon, Xtra Mile Events, have confirmed that all runners having entered the race after Monday 26th September, and all international runners, should collect their race number from the race pack collection point at First Street between 10am and 5pm on Saturday 15th October.

The Aldi Manchester Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 16th October and is looking forward to welcoming 12,000 runners from all over the UK and abroad. Runners who signed up after 20th September as well as the international runners will be collecting their race number on the eve of the race, though it will be a fun-filled day open to all.

A unique quarter of Manchester, First Street offers a blend of exciting architecture and thriving businesses, and is home to some of Manchester’s leading food and drink experiences. First Street’s 20-acre site includes eclectic cultural arts venue HOME which showcases cinema, art and theatre along with three great food and drink spaces and a lively bar. Other outlets include a Pizza Express, Sainsbury’s, Starbucks and unique Indian street food restaurant The Indian Tiffin.

INNSIDE Manchester, a modern 208-bedroom hotel complete with Wellness Centre and gym, can also be found at First Street along with a Q-park providing easy access to the popular and constantly evolving space.

All those who come to First Street to pick up their race pack will have the opportunity to meet other runners and take up some of the offers that they will have received in their virtual goodie bag prior to race weekend. With discounts on many of the businesses and cafes in First Street, runners can look forward to a social and inspiring start to race weekend.

Xtra Mile Events have been delighted by the uptake for the first ever Aldi Manchester Half Marathon, which is set to become one of the flattest and fastest half marathons. Boasting a mere 41m elevation gain and 2 mile+ finish straight, the city’s highly anticipated 13.1-mile race is an ideal race for first time half marathon runners as well as for elite athletes hoping to achieve a PB.

The AIMS accredited Aldi Manchester Half Marathon starts at White City roundabout and finishes at Emirates Old Trafford Lancashire County Cricket Club, the same venue as the popular ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon, and the organisers are promising plenty of entertainment and outstanding crowd support.

Race Director Simon Hill commented, “With just a few weeks to go until the inaugural Aldi Manchester Half Marathon, the vast majority of places have sold out and the city is getting ready for race weekend. We are looking forward to welcoming runners to First Street on Saturday 15th October, where they can pick up their race packs and make the most of the fantastic shops and facilities in the area. It will be a fitting start to what is set to be an action-packed two days.

“We would like to thank everyone who has signed up to the event so far and for the incredible support we have received in planning its autumn debut.”

The course will take runners on wide, closed roads through Old Trafford, Stretford, Brooklands and Sale. All finishers receive a medal, a t-shirt with a unique Manchester design, a virtual goody bag and a recovery pack.

Sponsors of the Manchester Half Marathon include Aldi, ASICS, INTERSPORT, HIGH5, MLP Law and Trafford Council. Best Western Cresta Court Hotel is the Official Hotel Partner for the race and supporters include ERDINGER Alkoholfrei, Athlete Matters and TWJ.

The Aldi Manchester Half Marathon is supporting three National Charity Partners: Alzheimer’s Society, British Heart Foundation and Save the Children. The two Local Charity Partners are The Christie and Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH).

A total of 12,000 places are available for the Aldi Manchester Half Marathon 2016. Entries are still open and runners are encouraged to sign up now at the race’s website, which includes links to the official charities.
