Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital charity raises money to ensure continued excellence in treatment, care and research at the largest single-site children’s hospital in the UK. The support of the Charity means that the hospital can provide additional resources that make life easier for patients and their families who use the hospital. The Charity has three main areas of work:

• to support research projects to improve our understanding of children’s illnesses
• to help to create an environment that’s more child-friendly
• to provide state-of-the-art equipment for diagnosis and treatment.

Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital is a centre of excellence for paediatric care and offers specialist treatment for children across the region from as far north as Cumbria, down to Stoke and across to North Wales. We have a national reputation for providing the best care in a variety of specialties including:

Bone Marrow Transplantation

RMCH has the main Bone Marrow Transplant Unit for metabolic disease outside London. The hospital boasts the first paediatric accredited unit in the UK. A bone marrow transplant can halt deterioration in some genetically inherited metabolic conditions which could otherwise be fatal.

Burns Treatment

Our burns unit is the largest specialist burns unit in the country. When it opened in 1953, originally at Booth Hall Children’s Hospital, the unit was the first of its kind in the UK. Burns Care Services provides treatment for over 450 children and young people with thermal injuries.

Critical Care

The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit is the largest in the country and is one of the leading centres in the North West. It provides care for critically ill children and their families. The unit has 17 beds for patients ranging from newborn babies to 16-year-old teenagers. The hospital treats very sick children form other referring hospitals.

The support of runners in the Aldi Manchester Half Marathon will help us to ensure that our hospital isn’t just the largest single-site children’s hospital in the UK but also the very best!
